Residents of the Santa Clarita senior living community Oakmont of Santa Clarita are getting ready to attend a Hawaiian luau thrown by staff this week.
“August is ‘Luau Month’ at Oakmont,” said Mary Dembkowski of Oakmont of Santa Clarita. “We’re having an authentic Hawaiian luau.”
The event, scheduled to take place Thursday, features themed decorations, entertainment, the Kona Ice truck and a gourmet Hawaiian feast provided by the chef at the Santa Clarita senior living community, according to Dembkowski.

“I don’t even know what the chef is serving,” she said. “He’s kind of like, ‘You wait and see — your socks will be knocked off with this luau.’”
Staff members are encouraging residents to wear Hawaiian-themed clothing, and noted they will be greeted with tiki torches lining the patio and leis.
Residents can enjoy the entertainment and decorations while also cooling off with a treat from the Hawaiian-themed Kona Ice truck.
“It’s been so hot; we thought, what a treat,” Dembkowski said. “Everyone can go out and grab a Kona Ice in addition to all the other goodies we’re serving.”
