Teepa Snow, a nationally-renowned dementia expert, is set to give a presentation at Oakmont of Valencia in December, with the public invited to attend, according to officials.
The event is called “A Day with Teepa Snow” and is scheduled to take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16 at Oakmont of Valencia.
“She’s nationally known as a leading educator on dementia,” said Mary Dembkowski of Oakmont of Valencia. “She’s really an advocate for those living with dementia.”
Snow has 33 years of clinical experience in dementia care and geriatrics, and is currently an occupational therapist who works as a dementia education and care specialist, event organizers said.
“She’s made it her personal mission to help families and professionals better understand how it feels to be living with the challenges and the changes that accompany the disease process, and how to really live with that condition and live it well,” Dembkowski said.
Oakmont of Valencia staff members have been planning the presentation event for about a year, as Snow travels the country providing creative and interactive practical and educational hands-on training sessions to providers and organizers.
“We had to book her a year in advance,” Dembkowski said. “This is going to be open to the community, and that’s why we’re talking about it early, because we know that December can be a busy month for people.”
To attend the event, organizers are suggesting a $10 donation to Oakmont of Valencia’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s team, officials said.
Space is limited, so anyone interested in attending is being asked to RSVP by Dec. 14 by calling 661-568-6080.
