The new executive director of Oakmont of Valencia was recently introduced on the KHTS Radio airwaves, and residents celebrated the New Year with a special 1920s-themed event.
On Oct. 28, 2019, Greg Becker took over the position of executive director at the Santa Clarita senior living community, bringing to the role 15 years of industry experience in senior living.
“It’s a great pride and privilege to serve seniors, and for me, to work for Oakmont is a privilege and an honor,” Becker said.
Because of her experience with opening both the Oakmont of Santa Clarita and Oakmont of Valencia locations, former Executive Director Margie Veis is now set to open a third brand new community in Simi Valley, according to Marketing Director Mary Dembkowski.
“She has taken on a new role, but Greg is now our fearless leader,” Dembkowski said.
Becoming executive director of Oakmont of Valencia is a “dream job” for Becker for a few reasons.
“(Oakmont) brings luxury, it brings brand, it brings the right value to seniors and to their families and delivers a high level of service and what seniors deserve,” he said.
For example, on New Year’s Eve, residents enjoyed a celebration with a unique theme that was likely extra special for those residents born in the 1920s.
“We celebrated the 1920s to bring in the 2020 new year,” Becker said. “We had residents dress up, family members dress up, we had entertainment, we had poker — they did so many fun things.”
A few event features included a magician, photo booth, bingo, performances by a Frank Sinatra impersonator and more, according to Dembkowski, who added seniors that want to join the community have the opportunity due to several vacancies.
“Anyone who is interested in learning more about the community (or) taking a tour, they can just reach out to us via phone or send a message through our website,” she said. “We’d be happy to show them the community, treat them to lunch and let them see what we’re all about.”
