At Oakmont of Santa Clarita, educational events surrounding the topic of aging are not only available for seniors who live at the luxury senior living community, but for seniors in the greater Santa Clarita Valley community as well.

For instance, a UCLA gastroenterologist gave a presentation last month about healthy eating for digestion.
“We are what we eat, and a lot of digestive diseases are a result of what we put into our bodies,” said Mary Dembkowski of Oakmont of Santa Clarita. “Staying away from processed food was the biggest message I came away with.”
Similarly, on July 30 the Senior Resource Alliance held a workshop at Oakmont of Santa Clarita called “Life’s Last Chapter.”
Topics attendees learned about included hospice care and who qualifies, end-of-life planning, VA benefits, California state laws that protect consumers in regards to pre-planning funeral expenses and more.
“All of that information (is) so needed, and yet we don’t think about it until the time comes,” said Dembkowski, a member of the Senior Resource Alliance. “Our goal is to prepare you for those types of things.”
Oakmont of Santa Clarita also holds a variety of entertainment activities for residents in addition to educational events on aging, such as a weekly “Happy Hour.”
A comedy musical group was the star of the most recent Happy Hour, appearing at Oakmont of Santa Clarita for the first time to the delight of residents, according to Dembkowski.
“We have our wonderful happy hours every Wednesday with entertainment,” she said.
